NOTE FOR ALL FIELD TRIPS

Whether it’s learning about native plants, building bluebird nest boxes, or birding the Hudson River, our members always enjoy the fellowship and fun of our field trips and workshops.

Field trip guidelines

Steady rain or predicted thunderstorms will cancel. If walks are canceled due to inclement weather, registrants will be notified by email the evening before the walk.
 
Field trips are planned to a variety of birding hotspots in Saratoga, Washington and Warren counties. The trips are organized by SAAS volunteer trip leader Damon Russo.  All will take place in the morning.

Sunday, May 4 – Crown Point Banding Station 50th Anniversary birding walk, near Lake Champlain
 
Sunday, May 18 – Birding around Piseco. Register for location and meeting time.
 
Monday, Memorial Day, May 26 – Big Bend, Moreau Lake State Park (Moreau)
 
Sunday, June 8, Saratoga National Historical Park, Stillwater, Saratoga County
 
Saturday and Sunday, June 21-22, Montezuma NWR, Seneca Falls, Seneca County.
First walk starts at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 21. Expect to see a wide variety of bird species, habitats, other animals and plants. Registrants responsible for hotel accommodations, expenses and transportation. A detailed trip description will be posted on SAAS website, social media outlets, and Mailchimp. First Saturday Bird Walks continue

Join SAAS members for morning bird walks along the beautiful Spring Run Trail in Saratoga Springs on the first Saturday of each month.

Join our First Saturday Regulars for morning bird walks.
Dates: June 7th, July 5th, and August 2nd
 
Walks start at 8:00 a.m.
  • The one-mile trail is paved and flat. It is used for walking, running and biking, as well as birding. It offers a variety of habitats. 
  • So far, 133 bird species have been reported along the Spring Run Trail. See Cornell’s eBird online checklist for this hotspot: ebird.org/hotspot/L1548124/bird-list. The “Bar Charts” link shows species seen for each month.
  • Bring binoculars if you have them. All skill levels are welcome.
  • Meet at 8:00 a.m. sharp at the Spring Run Trail parking area near the corner of East Avenue and Excelsior Avenue in Saratoga Springs
  • If the parking area is full, park just slightly down the road on Excelsior Ave. in the EBI Beverage Center parking lot adjacent to the Spring Run Trail.
